Home / Popular On-Page SEO Techniques for your websites

Here we are giving you an idea about overall On page SEO techniques that are followed by experts. There are 2 objectives we should focus on, when you optimise a page.

1.How friendly it is to users

2.How friendly to Search engines.

If you can make both happy, then you are on top.

Its very important to know that nothing is one off. You need to be continuously working on the items below to keep yourself on top. SEO is all about keeping upto date and relevant to the users & of course to Google’s eyes.

1.Optimised URLs

Note that URLs are the first thing google or a user will notice, so ensure your main key word is part of the URL. WordPress Title is normally converted to URL, hence you need to ensure you use title intelligently. Try to avoid links like “vegamsoft.com/p=23”.

2.Title Tags

Google guidelines indicates that 3-5 keywords will make a good impact on your rating. Try to keep the Title length to 65 or less characters. There is also a noted finding that try to front load the key word rather than to keep at the tail.

3.Description tags

This is the tag carries your 2 lines of google search results. This needs to provide all your major key words from google point of view. At the same time, when a user views the search result, he should be able to get a fair idea about the web page content. The optimum length would be around 160 characters. Note that any thing more will be truncated in the search.

4.Heading (H1) tags

Ensure you have only one H1 tag in your webpage. In some wordpress themes they add multiple H1s to increase the font size. H1 tag should contain your keywords too. In wordpress the article title is normally in H1, but some themes may not use H1 at all.

5.ALT image tags

Google doesnot recognise the image content yet. So we need to provide ALT info to let google know and index it appropriately. Ensure that the key word is included in the ALT tag.

6.Keywords in content

There are various theories around the key words distribution and its density. Try to follow some of the popular ones, as given below:

-Try to include your key words in the first 150 words of the page.

-Donot spam your keywords in appropriately.

-Note that you are not writing the article only to google. The user should feel comfortable in reading them too

7.Keeping the website updated

Freshness of the content plays a key role in google ranking. Try to keep the site updated on a regular interval. If you have 5 article ready, donot post them all at once. Release them in a regular interval. This will invite the google spiders to visit your site more frequently.

8.Internal linking strategy

Internal links play vital role in retaining the users in your page for longer time. This also works in reducing the bounce rates, if the links are used early in the pages. One of the additional benefit is to pass on the rating to other pages of your websites.

9.Outbound links to quality sites

Though this is looked down by many during SEO, this can be positive in the eyes of google. Having 2-3 external links to relevant quality links can demonstrate the comparative quality of the info in your page too. But the negative side is that you may be sending your visitor away from your site. You need to have a compromise somewhere.

10.Page Loading Speed

Google already indicated that the page speed will also a parameter in deciding the SERP. You need to nail it. Use tools like GTMETRIX / pingdom to improve your page speed. We will write a separate article on this.

11.Social Sharing buttons

Google may not look at the small pages as quality content show to its visitors. Donot copy paste the content from other websites. Write on your own. Not only google, user also likes only unique content

13.Bounce rate

Try to monitor your bounce rates on the Google analytics. It is important to reduce the bounce rate. Google thinks that if your bounce rate is high, the content is not relevant for the user. Give rich content at the top of the page. Use images & videos to keep the user tied to your page.

14.W3C Compliance

W3C is a compliance check to ensure that the site is produced at an expected quality. Pages with errors and developed with out following quality standards is seen by google as low quality page, and rated accordingly. Make the pages W3C google will love it.
